The Music of Annie Lennox
Take a young, Scottish singer growing up in a lower-middle class household, add in a love of music and from this mixture - "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This." That's the beginning of the Annie Lennox story.
Annie was born on December 25, 1954 in Aberdeen, Scotland to a working class family living in a modest apartment. Despite having to scrape by to earn a living, the family helped feed Annie's love for music by providing piano lessons, and encouraging her love of music. As she got older, her interest in music became even stronger, and as a young girl started to develop a unique singing style that would make her one of the best vocalists of her era.

She received a big boost in her musical career, when she earned a place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied classical music and the flute. However, she was not happy there, having to work jobs as a waitress and barmaid to help earn money when not studying. But this music background led to her first gig as lead singer for The Tourists in 1977, where she met fellow band member and Dave Stewart, who favored playing fender acoustic guitars. The Tourists were a British based band and Lennox was their lead singer until 1980. After finishing her work with The Tourists, Lennox and Stewart teamed up to form The Eurythmics, which turned out to be one of the most popular duos of the 1980's.
From 1980 to 1990, The Eurythmics produced several hit records, including "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)", "Here Comes The Rain Again", "Would I Lie To You?" and "Missionary Man." After she stopped performing in The Eurythmics, Lennox recorded four solo albums, with two of the albums reaching #1 on the U.K. Album Charts.
