The AKG K240 headphone is a world standard item. Go to any pro studio, and we wager you'll see some of AKG's finest in use. And here is the souped-up hot-rodded version of those great pro "cans." The K240DF phones are optimized for broadcast standards. Some eggheads in Munich called the Institute of Radio Technology set forth a series of standards for headphones that are a big deal, and apparently not easy to achieve. These K240DFs make the grade.
In AKG's literature, they say that the K240DF: "follows the criteria specified by the IRT in Munich for a 'diffuse field' equalization curve that provides headphone listeners with the sound pattern and characteristics of a room with reflective, non-anechoic surfaces." Whew. If that means that these phones sound really great, then we agree.
Radio engineers are a notoriously cranky bunch who demand the best, so if they put their stamp on these phones, you can best bet that there are few, if any better that you can buy.
