Like the seven other models in the Prophecy Collection, the LP Custom GX is a serious instrument with a heavyweight spec. Of course, you get the iconic Les Paul body, fashioned from top-quality mahogany, topped with a quilt maple cap, finished in rich Black Cherry, and complemented with eye-catching pearl knobs and unique ‘blade’ fret inlays. And naturally, you get all the admiring glances that go with it.
Then you pick it up, and realize it’s also the most playable guitar in the shop, thanks to the SpeedTaper mahogany neck (featuring 24 jumbo frets), the bound ebony fretboard and the combination of LockTone tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece that ensure you’re never messing with broken strings when you should be rocking out. All that’s left to do is crank up the Gibson ‘Dirty Fingers’ humbuckers at the neck and bridge (with coil-tap) and bask in a tone that moves from clean to filthy without missing a beat.
