Gibson has given guitarists the chance to play a piece of history with the 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS, a painstakingly detailed recreation of the legendary 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
The 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard is more than just a guitar -- it represents the very concept of how a guitar should feel and sound, and it's been essential to shaping the sound of modern music. But considering that barely 2,000 Les Pauls were built between 1958-1960, it's no wonder that these guitars can fetch several hundred thousand dollars, even if they are in poor condition. So, how do you get that authentic 1959 Les Paul playability and tone without taking out a second mortgage on your home? The Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS.
Authentic to the Core
No detail has been spared in Gibson's quest to produce the most accurate recreation of this beloved Les Paul model. The classic flame maple top and non-weight-relieved mahogany body found in the 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS even feature lumber that is true to the original '59 Les Pauls, down to the unique knots and discolorations. The sunburst finish, made with aniline dye, is the same used to stain the original '59 Les Pauls, and will age with exposure to sunlight and time. The tapered headstock is unsanded and without buffing around the edges just like on the original '59s, and features Kluson Deluxe Green Key tuners. If you didn't know this was a reissue, you would think it was an original.
Custom Bucker Pickups for Classic PAF Tone
Gibson's Custom Bucker pickups are the heart of this tone machine. With a low gain profile and violin-like focus and depth, the Custom Bucker pickups recreate that classic PAF humbucker sound with Alnico 3 magnets and 42AWG plain enamel wiring. To make the tone of the Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard VOS as authentic as possible, Gibson has installed Luxe "bumblebee" capacitors built to the specs of those found in the original '59 Les Pauls,
Slim Tapered Neck for Passionate Soloing
What set the original 1959 Les Paul Standard apart was the feel and speed of its slim tapered neck -- a dramatic change from the chunky necks of the Goldtop LPs that preceded the 1959 models. The Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS has an authentic slim tapered, one-piece mahogany neck with a single-layer rosewood fretboard and Jumbo frets just like the original 1959 Les Paul. This tapered neck and slimmer profile make it easier to access the upper register of the guitar, perfect for extended blues and rock soloing. The Jumbo frets of the original '59 Les Paul made it easier for bending strings and a crafting a heavier vibrato, and many would say the language of rock and roll guitar playing could not have been created without these frets. Combine all these unique elements into one amazing guitar and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hide Glue Neck fitHide glue is known for its reparability. It can be re-heated to remove the neck without damage to surrounding wood. Many argue that the original hide-glue guitars have a different tone than those with synthetic glue.
Kluson Deluxe Green KeysThese tuning keys are as near a replica of the original Kluson tuners as is available. They feature the proper vintage profile, color and performance specifications.
Aniline DyeAniline dye is a vintage woodcraft coloring material and technique that was abandoned due to color-fastness (it fades when exposed to sunlight) and difficulty in applying with a manufacturing environment. It results in superior wood grain presentation and depth of color.
Single-Layer, Rosewood FretboardsIn 2013 all Historic Reissue guitars will return to single-layer, rosewood fingerboards.
