"Clean n' crisp. Great value."
Feature:
The Lo-cut, I think, takes the body out of low tenor/barritone vocals (aka me), so use a windscreen and don't be hissy cause your vocals will distort.
Quality:
Didn't get a 10 because I've heard from very reputable sources that these are very brittle mics. You drop it once and there's a good chance you'll break her. But that's true of about any LDC. The shockmount is pretty money.
Value:
This is where this mic really shines. Doesn't get much better for the 200-300 duckets.
Sound:
I find this to be a very honest mic. I've recorded my vocals on this, Rode NT1, and Sennheiser MD421. For this level/pricerange of microphone, I was definitely most pleased with the AKG. Some people have reviewd this and said it's too "harsh," not "warm" enough. I love how people don't realize that "warmth" is boomy bass combined with rolled-off hi's. Can you say even-order harmonics? If you can't then don't call something "harsh." This mic is simply tonally accurate. If I scratch my arm this thing's gonna pick it up easily. Oh, and USE a windscreen, even with the lo-cut.
Overall:
I like what some other dude said.. if you complain about this mic not sounding good on your voice, take some singing lessons. I'm sorry you're off-key but you can't tell with your SM-58. If your acoustic guitar doesn't sound good with it, buy a guitar that doesn't sound like ass to begin with. And practice more. Ok I'm over it.
