Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Combo Amplifier (220 Watts, 1x15 in.) Customer Review
Sound:
Okay, if you want a B15N, but can't afford one, here you go. The tone shaping combines traditonal frequency ranges with more modern boost/cut capabilities; therefore, there is a lot of low-end that can come out of this amp, and the mid EQ is extremely usable throughout all genres of playing despite not being sweepable. You obviously can't get compression from clipping, but if you wanted that you wouldn't buy this anyway. Preamp sounds fantastic, I plan on putting an ECC83 in it to dirty it up a little, but the preamp level control dimed out gives a great grind out of the box. I play a '72 Jazz- I can get anything from "I was Made to Love Her" to "Take Your Whuiskey Home."
Feature:
You're not getting an Eden, you're getting a modern incarnation of a no-frills amp with just enough modern tone-shaping flexibility. Casters are key, this b**tch ain't light, but thats a good thing. Everything you need, nothing you don't.
Ease of Use:
Plug it in, dial it in, and start thumping.
Quality:
This thing is built like a tank. I would suggest checking the bolts fastening the chassis to the cabinet; mine came loose, and at volume the amp would buzz horrendously.
Manufacturer Support:
never had to use it.
Value:
If you grew up listening to Jamerson and Babbit, or Women & CHildren First/Fair Warning-era Van Halen, this is as close as you're gonna come without spending serious cash. Hell, unless you play arenas, this thing pound-for-pound stacks up against any SVT I've played.
The Wow Factor:
Its pretty, too.
Overall:
Best amp under a grand. Period.
