"Pretty good all-around unit..."
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Feature:
The unit is loaded with audio features that I find very useful. Forget the gimick stuff, you'll find some very good reverbs, chorus & delay effects. This unit is killer for keyboards. I run my Korg piano and Hammond XK-3 through it. Due to their hot output signal, the board has no trouble amplifying them.
Quality:
No matter what I've heard about Behringer, I think it's pretty well made. Four years, constant use, low price tag, no problems... What else can I say???
Value:
Pros: Great features and looks
Cons: Weak power output
As long as you understand it might need a supplimental power amp.
Desirability:
I'm sure the budget limited starters can make good use of this unit. It has a lot of practical features. The Pro's, however, will pass it over for more serious equipment.
Sound:
This unit is rated at 450 Watts @ 4 Ohms. My unit is the previous model (PMH3000) rated at 400 Watts @ 4 Ohms. I am totally happy with every aspect of the Behringer equipment EXCEPT the Power Output rating. I've used my unit every night for the past 4 years in my basement studio and it has worked flawlessly. However, moving it out to use for even small venue performances has shown it's weakness. The ratings are neither FTC or EIA rating (I'll leave it to you to do the research) but whatever the power "Wattage" rating Behringer uses, it's misleading at best. I contacted Behringer for a conversion of the wattage power output to Continuous Average Power or RMS (Yes, I know... I won't go there) and they wouldn't or couldn't do it. Needless to say, it the best advice I got from them was "Buy the EuroPower 2500 to suppliment the output!!!" Here again I asked them, "How do you rate the EuroPower Amp???? What wattage unit do you use???" They gave me the same lame wattage answer. When I was younger, we used a 35 Watt Bogen PA amp for our band and while it didn't smoke this unit, it performed as well. 450 Watts?? I think not.
My advice, if you're going to perform with this unit, suppliment it with a good power amp from QSC, Crown, Yamaha, Peavey, etc. And if you do, you might ask yourself why didn't I buy just a mixer in the first place?
Ease of Use:
I think the manual is the reason I didn't score this higher. It could be a little more detailed, more helpful than it is. Once you find the good settings though, you'll be pleased. Keep tinkering, you'll get there.
Support:
Well... I DID ask questions and they DID answer (sort of). I might not of liked the answer but... it is what it is.
Overall:
I've had it for 4 years and it has served me well. It still is a useful item and I will continue to use it in the forseeable future. At the time of purchase I planned for the extras that I might need and I have not yet outgrown it. I think the low price and added features have given me real value from this unit. I have no complaints other than those stated above.
