"OK product but with some shortcomings..."
Feature:I gave it a 7 because the mastering tools presets are excellent. Easily master your song based on the type of music. As for other "features" I think the drums are limited by the small buttons, and I think if you used it much you'd kill the unit. The onboard mics are totally useless, as they have a hum noise which the mfr claims is within spec. Be advised there is no phantom power, so you will need a preamp or mixer to use a condenser mic. The little pouch it comes with is better than nothing. For $350 you'd think they could throw in an AC adapter, but Boss doesn't include those with anything that will run on batteries.
Quality:
It's small and plastic, but is lightweight and quite portable. Good enough for a small home device, would count on it holding up to much transportation or any knocking around. Don't know of a recorder that would though.
Value:
I bought this to serve both mobile (internal mics) and home use, but it's only good for home. May as well just get a bigger unit or use the PC for home. If you want a mobile recorder with onboard mics try something else.
Desirability:
Whatever...
Sound:
The sound is very good using external mics. The onboard mics have a hum the mfr claims is within spec.
Ease of Use:
The menu isn't user friendly, but in fairness anything this small and/or that has a lot of features is going to be a bit complex. The book tells you how, so no biggie.
Support:
This is my main gripe. The onboard mics hum. I went back and forth with tech support e-mail a few times, and they could not issue an RMA. So, I called customer service who did, but the lousy warranty was only good for 90 days labor. I wasted $14 to mail it back to Boss, because they sent it back claiming there's nothing wrong with it and everything is within spec. If a loud mic hum is spec, that's a bad design and quality standard...if not then I got hosed by tech support...either way not good.
