"Tons of Tones, USB port, Studio quality A/D D/A, Entire rack rig in one 2 space unit."
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Feature:
What's in the box? USB cable, manual, driver/application CD for Win or Mac, GT-Pro with power cable. Are you scared of rack effects because of the hassle of programming? Don't be, hook it up to your computer and program EVERYTHING on screen. MIDI patch changes and any other MIDI related signal changes. Dial in your "amp and speakers" on screen, twist the knobs on the stomp boxes, drag the stompboxes/pre-amps/effects loops (3) in what ever order you want and save it all to the GT-Pro. Record direct to computer thru USB or digital coax. Up to 15 simultaneous stereo effects at once with stomp box like switching on or off with any of the effects/effect loops/pre-amp channels. Headphone out, built in tuner, intelligent harminizer, Wahs, reverb, delay, chorus, Compressor/limiters, Sitar emulation, acoustic emulation, synth emulation, the features go on and on.
Quality:
The name says it all. GT-Pro. I'm not a gigging pro any more, but I've not had one trouble yet. I bought a wharehouse reseal to save a little, I would have never known it was resealed. If you buy an effect because of how the manufacturer designed the paint scheme and front panel, stop wasting everybodies time and quit playing. This thing will look good in any rack, no matter what. You can see patch numbers in stage/studio lighting fron at least 30' away, all buttons that indicate effect on/off are a blue LED in the button that is easily visible fron across stage, the tuner display in the LCD is very straight forward and easier to tune with than any of my other tuners.
Value:
Whether you pay normal price or at a discount, you get more than what you pay for.
This one unit can replace an entire rack of guitar stuff for less than the price of all the other stuff in your rack!
Desirability:
Get ready to fight with the old lady again, 'cause once you get this thing home and hooked up, you'll fall in love. She may not be as pretty as the Line6, but she feels so much better, sounds 10x better, and will do so much more with out complaining. She'll even ask you if she can do something else for you. Incredibly versitile and friendly.
Sound:
I don't care what style you play, what guitar you play, or what amp set up you play thru, you can find a killer tone straight out of the box. If you need to tweak it a little, no problem, knobs on front to dial it in, like what you're used to. No scrolling thru screens adjusting archaic numbers. COSM pre-amp will give you all the tone you want. Need more gain? Dial it up more. All the other effects are either Boss stomp boxes, or some of the best emulations of other "classic" boxes. Get all the sounds of the Marshall MP-1 (or other real amps) plus Boogies, Fenders, and others, with out the high cost or the bulk and weight. Better sounding than the Line6 Firepod XT with more features.
Support:
I can't give a full 10 here. I really haven't had to call them. I did call to get some info on a GP-16 that I've had for over 15 years and got the info I needed very quickly over the phone. Boss and Roland have excellent support in my opion, but that's only from the very rare instances of having to use tech support. I've only called for stuff that I either lost my manual and couldn't find the specs, or just general questions regarding equipment in general. They've always been curteous and very knowledgeable, if the person you are talking to doesn't know the answer, he'll either find out the answer or get you to some one that does know, and won't feed you some BS.
Overall:
I bought this to update my 15 year old rack that still sounds good, but not like this. If my GP-16 lasted this long, being on the road for 10 years, I think this thing can handle that load. I'll get some new other rack stuff to broaden the sounds, like dedicated reverb and intelligent harminizer, but you really don't need it. Get a good rack mount power amp, 4 4x12s of your choice and have a killer sounding stereo dual stack. The USB port is one of the coolest bells on this thing, especially if you're scared of rack mount gear. Get your self the Roland FC 200 and have ultimate control of the GT-Pro and other MIDI gear. You can get both for less than the Line6 POD XT PRO and the Line6 foot control, and you'll have more control options, more higher quality effects, easier programming, and better amp modeling. There's more ins/outs than most players will need, plus extra foot control inputs on the back to do a budget pro set up.
