"Sweet Octaver!"

Overall:
Before ordering the Boss OC-3, I tried out the Boss OC-2 and MXR M-103 Blue Box. The polyphonic octave feature is what led me to choose the Boss OC-3, and I'm extremely happy with my decision! This stompbox provides a stable and excellent-sounding effect in polyphonic mode, even with full chords! For a cleaner bass sound, I send its output straight to one channel of the amp, sending its direct sound through my delay-chorus-reverb chain before reaching the other channel of my amp. The results are AWESOME!!! 2-octave mode gives excellent low-end, which allows a regular guitar to do effective single-finger bass work. Drive mode is just plain fun, giving a decent distortion sound when playing single notes. My one complaint is that Boss makes their effects pedals out of plastic, rather than the metal housing I'm used to in DigiTech pedals. Boss pedals feel extremely lightweight in comparison. I do love my Boss OC-3, and am glad I purchased it! I highly recommend this little gem!

"Test this and you'll buy it!"

Quality:
Very stout design. This pedal design has been around for at least twenty years and has been stomped on by the best and still came back for more.

Value:
Knowing that most musicians are of the 'starving' type in regards to annual income, I wish quality of this high caliber could be had for less money. It would encourage more musicians to explore their creative abilities if they could attain the variety of "colors" these devices enable.

Desirability:
The new feelings I get when I play through this has rekindled my enthusiasm. I can play the same passes I've played for years but when this box applies it's effect, It sounds freakin' awesome. I spent 6 hours playing this past weekend just because it was making me grin and say "DAMN!" over and over... Lol

Sound:
I love this pedal. I'm using it thru my 2 '76 Marshall 50 watt stacks and a Jackson Virtuoso guitar(powered by an active Bartolini pickup). It sounds so ballsy in the 'polyphonic' position when playing chords. In the 'original' octave position, single string playing sounds like a bass player is matching you note for note. Very full and 'thick'. The distortion mode sounds like a synthesizer. Very versatile.

Support:
I've had at least a dozen Boss pedals since '78 and they've never disappointed me.

Overall:
I'd replace this unit.
