"It's everything you could ask for..."
Feature:there are some really cool features, like software synths, effects patches, and so on. This includes standard effects such as flanger etc. The "virtual console" is really nice also, it has aux busses and a number of outut channels (I think the number depends on your sound card). It can create wave files and mp3 files (mp3 is a $30 add-on).
Quality:
I have not had a single problem with it.
Desirability:
The graphics are great, in particular the console view has the same look and feel (and functions) as a real mixer.
Sound:
The sound is very good, although it probably depends a lot on the sound card. I've got the SB Audigy Platinum.
Support:
I have not had any support issues. Cakewalk's web site has some good info also, the FAQ is helpful and also there is a list of supported sound cards.
Overall:
I haven't used any other similar product, but it seems to have all the features and functionality that would be needed for a home studio.
