"God bless the USSR"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Feature:
it's got what you need, and not much else..I deducted points for a couple of things..A: the metal seems a little flimsy to me B: plastic input jacks C: For whatever reason, the Sovtek model has the input/output reversed to standard, which is a major pain if you use a pedalboard.
Quality:
Back to the flimsy metal and plastic input jacks again, and the innards seem, well, tentative at best. I baby my stuff, so i'm not worried, but I can see it breaking with real hard use. So all you pedal stompers, beware.
Value:
I got it NIB for $45 on e-bay...saved about $10-$15 off of retail and I think it's a good value, but I rarely pay retail for equipment anymore.
Desirability:
Aesthetics?!? Are you joking?!?..this is one of the ugliest boxes I've ever seen, but it sounds so good. Do people really buy stompboxes because they're pretty? Maybe this section is more for guitars.
Sound:
Hmm..not the distortion pedal for everyone, but it's perfect for me...the Big Muff is like a blend of fuzz/distortion/sustainer..if you want to know what it sounds like, listen to just about any Mudhoney track..it's kind of a one trick pony, but, man, what a trick..I have a Daddy-o O.D. for lighter overdriven sounds and the Muff for full on dirt on chords and endless (nearly) sustain on leads.
Support:
haven't ever dealt with EHX, but have heard mixed reviews about their service...I'll base it on the services available on their site..which is none...no online registration, no online manuals...both of which seem to be becoming industry standards.
Overall:
This one will stay in my chain for a long time...I've got a few other edals that are just waiting for upgrades (wah, envelope filter) but this ones a keeper.
