"A quality unit and the best bang-for-buck in cd decks."
Feature:
Here's why its good:
Great scratch sound
-Best emulation of backspin drag/resistance of any cd deck with a stationary platter (i.e. not Numark CDX's, other Denon's)
-Lots of pitch control ranges
-Built in beatmatched effects
-Its size is a fantastic feature
-Slot in on a cd player is sexy
-The eject lock is not a critical feature, but useful if you often enjoy MANY drinks while mixing
-MP3 SUPPORT!
Here is whats not good:
-The platter is small (but the feel is great) and the pressure sensitive platter will only work is you touch it on the outside towards the rim (which is easy to get used to).
-You "get" to scratch and cue songs looking at the timestamp instead of seeing an emulated record display (Pioneer 800 and 1000's have this as well as the Denon 3000 and 5000...and the CDX)
-The only signifant problem I've found lies in seeking...If you seek rapidly though a song, there is a big drag for the player to catch up. If you are running out of time to mix two tracks together, this might be a bit of a headache.
Quality:
Fantastic quality. Extremely durable.
Value:
For the price I think this is the best all around deal in the cd turntable market. People wanting to treat themselves in a slightly more regal manner might want to look into the CDJ 800 for the novelty of the larger platter and lcd display, but this will require a slightly more regal bank account.
Desirability:
Its pretty cool looking, in a Nintendo Gamecube sort of way. Users can customize their platter (I don't know how though), and its got a cd slot-in instead of a cd-rom style loading tray.
Sound:
Typical frequency response of other similar products...this rating isn't really applicable for decks.
Support:
I've never dealt with support, but I do know that other Denon cd players have upgradable firmware...which is totally awesome.
Overall:
Best bang for the buck in cd's. The features make it great for loads of genres. I think the dns-1000 makes a great addition to the vinyl dj who wants to get a cd deck for some adaptability.
