"Wait a while before buying one"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Feature:
Love the PC connectivity and the ability to store loops on the compact flash card. Really miss the fade-out and reverse features of the Boss RC-20XL.
Quality:
Sorry folks...the JamMan just isn't quite ready as a reliable, live performance tool yet. Using a high-capacity compact flash card (1GB), my loops were consistently corrupted after about the 5th or 6th overdub. I tried several brand new cards and even returned the JamMan in exchange for another one. Same problem. The thing is built like a tank. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the problem with corrupted loops means that it's just not reliable enough to use in a live performance. Let's hope DigiTech fixes this problem right away.
Value:
A bit spendy, considering you would most likely need to buy a higher-capacity compact flash card and, for some, the optional foot switch.
Desirability:
Looks nice. If you've played with the Boss RC-20XL, the design is very similar. Unfortunately, I can't say "I Want It" until the bugs are ironed out.
Sound:
The sound quality is great. The built-in limiter can be a good or bad thing. I've tried storing full background tracks on it and it works great for that. I understand the reason they went strictly mono but a stereo option would be nice (can't even play stereo WAV files on the CF card).
Ease of Use:
No need to read the owner's manual here. Good interface.
Support:
DigiTech is very quick to respond to my emails. It's just that they're not much help. I imagine the phone support just doesn't have enough first-hand experience with the products.
Overall:
I was so excited to get the JamMan. Unfortunately, my hopes were bashed when I discovered it was consistently corrupting my loops when I started overdubbing several parts (especially loops of faster tempos). You can check out the discussion on Yahoo's JamMan discussion group, for more details. I had to exchange the first JamMan for another one due to the bug. The second unit will be going back to the store for a refund tomorrow. I would strongly recommend holding off on getting a JamMan right now. Give DigiTech a year or so to work out the bugs first. I think the only reason we're not seeing some of the others complain about this problem in their reviews is just because they haven't discovered it yet. However, it's there.
