"If you want an inexpensive acoustic bass for home jamming, or recording - I defy you to find a better guitar for the $150 I paid"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Sound:
I'm an intermediate acoustic guitarist who wanted an inexpensive bass to add bottom to some home recordings. My only experience with a bass guitar frustrated me because of excessive "slapping" and fret noise. I bought the Playmate 10 days ago and have been wowed by the tone, and relative ease to play (compared to an electric bass guitar).
Feature:
The electronics are somewhat inadequate for me. I have to boost and shape the sound through a powered mixer to get adequate volume to record. Ditto the remarks made by other reviewers regarding the tone control slider. The guitar is surprisingly beautiful, although very unadorned.
Ease of Use:
The action as shipped to me is perfectly OK. I find this guitar much easier to play than an electric bass: slapping and fret noise are less of an issue.
Quality:
I honestly could not believe that the guitar was as well constructed as it appears to be, for the price. The worst quality of the guitar is the electronics - but as I said - if you have anything to boost the signal before your amplifier - you'll be good as gold.
Manufacturer Support:
haven't needed the company
Value:
If there is a better value for the money than this guitar - I'd like to see it. I was hestitant to buy this guitar because I was afraid it would be a major disappointment, considering the price. Boy, was I ever pleasantly surprised!
The Wow Factor:
it all depends on what you want. I wanted an inexpensive acoustic bass guitar that had good playing qualities. Sofar, i'm getting way more than my money's worth out of this guitar.
Overall:
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, if my current Playmate was damaged.
