"Edirol M10DX: Small Format Digital Console for Solo Acoustic PA system."
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Feature:
I bought this mixer for my acoustic duo band. I only require three inputs (vocal, guitar, bass) and this mixer is perfect for that application. This mixer and a powered speaker make for an amazing PA. There are a few limitations to be aware of. The insert effects (the compressors) are only availible on the first two input channels and the stereo output. Channels 1 and 2 must use the same insert effect, but you can bypass the insert on either channel 1 (and) or 2. The attack and ratio of the compressors cannot be adjusted, but fixed settings are suitable for vocals. Also, an EQ adjustment is not provided for inputs 7/8 and 9/10.
Quality:
The build quality is excellent. The case is plastic, but that makes the mixer light weight. Even with a plastic enclosure, the mixer has good shielding as I did not pick up interference (hum) even at high pre amp trim.
Value:
This Edirol mixer is deeply discounted right now. This is an amazing live sound value for solo performers and small groups.
Sound:
The mixer sounds good and has low noise. The EQ and insert effects (vocal compressors) are very useful and the tube preamp emulation adds color.
Ease of Use:
The mixer is very easy to use. The manual does an excellent job of explaining the features. There is only a stereo and an aux bus, so the mixer is not that complicated.
One blunder with the UI is how the preset scenes operate. The mixer stores 8 mix scenes that can be recalled. Unfortunately, the mixer does not allow the user to make a minor change to a scene other than the mix levels (and even that requires that a button is held while a level knob is adjusted). If a scene is recalled and latter the scene mode is turned off, all mixer settings are updated to the current front panel settings. That can be really dangerous in a live application, so be careful.
Support:
I have never contacted Roland for support.
Overall:
I bought the Edirol M10DX to replace my Yamaha 01V96 for small performances. I look forward to having a much lighter setup with a smaller footprint.
