"Boutique amp for a low price"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Sound:
The Egnater Rebel 30 is one hell of an amp- I've owned many different valve amps - Marshalls, Fenders, and Peaveys - but this one is it's own animal. With a mix of 6V6's and EL84's, you can get a plethora of different tones, both clean and distorted, that are both familiar and different from anything you've heard before. Running just the 6V6's, you get a chimey, Twin Reverb type sound and a nice polished distortion- while running just the EL84's will net you a tone that isn't quite Marshall, but is clearly British, perhaps just not as ballsy. Mixing the two types of valves equally gets a strange mixture of the two and a truly unique tone.
Feature:
This thing has all the bells and whistles of amps three times more expensive. 2 Channels, 'Tight' switches to reign in bass frequencies, 'Bright' switches to change the sweep of the treble pot, two different types of valves, wattage settings that go all the way down to 1 for fantastic flexibility in studios, ohm settings from 4-16, and a duel channel switcher that controls reverb as well. The only drawback in features that I can find is that the reverb is digital, but this is offset by being able to tightly control the levels of reverb on each channel. A gearhead's dream!
Ease of Use:
A rookie could get great tone out of this right out of the box- but to really wring all the sound out of this thing, you need a pro's touch that understands what each of the functions do and how they affect tone.
Quality:
Built like a tank, but light, the Rebel 30 is perfect for the studio and the stage.
Value:
This is an unbelievable value for what you get out of the box- don't think- buy it!
Overall:
I'm head-over-heels in love with this amp and use it often for all applications. Sound engineers from around the Northeast are shocked when they hear it for the first time; some have even rushed out and bought one from simply messing with mine. Affordable for all levels, run it through a nice speaker cab, set the wattage low for early break up, plug in your favorite axe and get ready to drool. You won't regret it!
