"An investment during tough times..."
Sound:
A functional 12 String Guitar for under $200.00. Tuning is a bit tedious (even for a 12 string) but not a buzz-kill. I have rated it a five in sound but there have been moments that I would rate it much higher.
I have struggled with becomming a competeant guitar player my entire life-unfortunately competancy continues to evade. The Epiphone DR212 supports my effort and does nothing to degrade my less than stellar sound.
Feature:
Guitar and case came as separate packages.
Ease of Use:
It was a matter of tuning the guitar (sometimes tedious). The guitar has responded well. Epiphone factory strings will rub off on your fingertips leaviing a pencil lead like color. That has stopped occurring lately (after a few hours of use).
Quality:
Buying a 12 string for under $200,00 that doesn't fold in half once tuned - is gratifying.
We get what we pay for - but ultimately, I wanted a 12 string and I have a 12 string that performs with the essential characteristics of an acoutic 12 string guitar.
Manufacturer Support:
I have emailed Epiphone inquiring about a case that will accomodate the DR212 but as of just over a week now I have received no response.
The DR212 Guitar was purchased with a Gator GL-DREAD-12 case (AS recommended by SAMEDAY). The case is too small for the 43.25" overall length of the DR212. I emailed SAMEDAY and the response was prompt yet unresponsive. My email was intended to alert SAMSDAY of the erroneous information regarding the case SAMEDAY sepecifies for the guitar. SAMEDAY's response treated my email as if I did not appreciate the purchase and was seeking a return.
I emailed Gator and they responded promptly and professionally. We discovered that Gator does not have a case that accomodates the DR212. Fortunately I have an inexpensive six that should have a case. So I kept the Gator that came with the DR212. The six fits nicely in the Gator GL-DREAD-12 case.
Value:
Yes the DR212 represents value.
The Wow Factor:
The DR212 is not sexy but does have a nice personality.
Overall:
If my palying improves and I start makiing money again, the guitar will be primarily used for alternative tunings and a 12 string of at least 10 times the cost of the DR212 will be considered.
This was purely a financial purchase and the DR212 came through. If I had to replace the instrument, depending on my financial position I would upgrade.
