"A Les Paul isn't just a SIX string beauty!"
Sound:
The guitar sounds great. I always liked the Les Paul look, but the basses were always too big in the body - they looked disproportionate. This body is smaller and it's a great guitar for rock - from classic to modern.
Feature:
Beautiful guitar and easy to tune, but the bridge is really funky and adjusting the intonation will take you hours. You'll have to tune it - check the intonation - loosen the strings - adjust the intonation - tune it - check the intonation... You get the picture. The strings it comes with are terrible. In fact, on mine - rather than E-A-D-G the strings were A-A-D-G. I wondered why I had such a tough time tuning the E string!
Ease of Use:
There is no information about the bridge, which is entirely different than the bridge on the four other electric Epis I own. They WILL NOT reveal the super secret schematics of the bridge, but will refer you to an 'authorized dealer' a lot like your basic Sony equipment.
Quality:
Looks great. Lousy strings shipped with the guitar. Convoluted bridge that isn't all that bad once you figure it out. I mentioned the screwed up initial stringing of the guitar; A-A-D-G
Manufacturer Support:
Epiphone doesn't do anything quickly, and rather than answer an inquiry they steer you to authorized dealers and authorized service centers. The e-mail exchange was pleasant enough, but after two days of exchanges they still want me to spend $75 to adjust the intonation rather than just telling me where to find the info on the bridge.
Value:
I keep buying Epiphones - certainly NOT because of the spectacular customer service but because of the value for the money. My first was a Thunderbird and I was hooked after that.
The Wow Factor:
The guitar is simply beautiful. It looks great. It's easy to care for. It sounds great. You can't ask for more.
Overall:
I'm pretty sure - barring any unforeseen circumstances - I'll wear this guy out rather than trading or selling it. The single complaint I have about the guitar is just the unfamiliar bridge. As I mentioned, once you figure that out it's OK too. Everything else is great. I honestly never thought I'd own a Les Paul bass. Shows what I know, eh?
