"One bad apple does not make a bad species."

Sound:
I played this guitar for about an hour and the sound grew on me. I was unsure at first but when you consider that this is a solid body guitar with an acoustic nanoflex pickups it sounds pretty good. A buddy of mine owns a Tom Anderson Crowdster and this guitar could probably hold its ground up against it. This guitar is a great idea for live performances where you have feedback to content with. I plugged into a Fender Acoustosonic Junior and it sounded great once I got into it. It would definitely need some adjusting to fit my style but not bad right out of the box.
It is not the top of the line guitar in this category but for the money you can't go wrong. I owned mine for all of a day before I sent it back due to the faulty jack. I would consider getting it again but I would definitely test it out first. I read plenty of reviews and it seems as though a lot of the Epi SST's are hit or miss in that you can get a great one or (like me) you can get a dud. I bought it from Sameday Music and so far they have been very good to work with when I've had issues with gear and instruments.
Feature:
It is pretty straight forward. The studio sst is very sharp looking and is sure to turn heads. Mine came with Shadow Nano Flex pickups which sounded pretty good to my ear. I did not know a great deal about it before purchasing but the more I read the more interesting it gets. The guitar has a Bass, Treble, and Volume slide on the top side of the guitar much like many other acoustic guitars. Mine had a slightly recessed slot for the controls and had the 9V battery slot right there for easy access unlike previous models where you had to unscrew a cover on the back of the guitar body...this was a nice design improvement. It also has a cool headphone switch feature. It only comes with on strap button but this could have easily and cheaply been fixed.
Ease of Use:
Once again very easy and straight forward: Bass, Treble, and Volume. Like I mentioned earlier mine did not work due to a faulty 1/4 inch jack...I blame poor craftsmanship on Epiphone's part for not testing their instruments before shipping it out to vendors. All in all it is very easy and intuitive to use.
Quality:
This is where I have to vent my frustration with this particular guitar...(not all Epi's just the one I got and a potential trend).
This guitar is beautiful. It is glossier than any other black guitar I have seen in a long time. It is sleek and simple. The finish was flawless. The electronics and pickups work great...when they work.
I gave this guitar a 6 because I have read a lot of reviews and it seems to me that a great deal of the SST's are hit or misses. Some people get great guitars while others get sub-par instruments. In my case I got a faulty instrument. I would like to be fair and not bash this instrument out of frustration but I am somewhat disappointed that Epiphone did not bother to inspect or plug it in to an amp for quality assurance. I suppose it is the draw with purchasing online sometimes where you don't get to test it first. After adjusting the cable (I tested it with 5 different cables including the one that came with the guitar)for about 5 to 10 minutes at a time in order to get a signal it sounded pretty good.
Manufacturer Support:
I did not use Epi's support...I went straight to the point of purchase once I found the issue with this particular instrument. The faulty jack is something I can fix myself and it is not like Epiphone could have come over the phone to fix it for me.
I paid decent money for a defective guitar so I decided not to mess with it. Instead, I called up Sameday music and asked for a refund...so far so good.
Value:
Compared to other guitars in the same category, I would say it is a great find for the money.
The Wow Factor:
It is very sexy and definitely a conversation piece.
Overall:
I was not but I could be give the right opportunity
