"TR6's get the job done....Period!"
Feature:I like the input sensitivity adjuster in the back of the speaker. I have it all the way up so the volume controls on my mixer are very sensitive and the speakers sound powerful with it turned all the way to max. When I first heard these speakers it felt like I was feeling the music as well as hearing it! What a big difference compared to Bose shelf speakers! It has all the features you need and nothing you don't need, plenty of cable hook up options.
Quality:
The product seems to be made very well...Although the warranty is only 90 days, I've had no problems with them and they're built well. Good fit and finish! Better build quality than Bose 301 series speakers. They should last 10 years or longer.
Value:
The TR6's are well worth the money!
Desirability:
I love these speakers, but if money was not an issue, I'd buy top of the line monitors which are far more costly.
Sound:
These speakers get the job done period. I am a professional DJ who mixes club tracks (mostly House music). The sound quality is excellent, I can hear everything off the CD or records I play and my mixes are very accurate. At first, I thought these 6" speakers did not have enough bass, but after using them a lot I discovered they have plenty of bass for what I'm doing. The bass is very tight and accurate. My only gripe would be that the speakers don't have a lot of bass, just enough. And also, the speakers distort sooner than I would like them to. But just before they distort, the speakers are so loud that it hurts your ears anyway so its not really an issue. I have not compared them to other monitors but I cannot imagine any other speakers being better than these at this price range. I used to own a pair of Bose 301 series speakers, and the TR6's kick their butt! Although the TR6's don't have as much bass as the 8" woofers of the Bose, they are a lot clearer and the bass is much tighter. They're probably not as loud either, but they are plenty loud enough for near-field monitoring. In fact, I would rather buy the TR6's and than the Bose for a home stereo or surround sound, just because they are so much clearer and flatter. Of course, the speakers sound better when you're mixing live than when you play a recording. I use these speakers in my home studio in my basement, and I can hear clearly with them even though my basement is not a "professional" studio. I use a Denon dual CD player, Technics SL-1200's, and a Pioneer DJM-600 DJ mixer. There is a little buzz when the speakers are powered on, but a lot of that noise is from all the equipment hooked up to it, especially the turntables. I wish the amps were a little quieter but when you start playing music you cannot hear it anymore so its not an issue at all. If you're looking for big bass, don't buy these speakers. These speakers have enough bass for what I use them for and they're loud enough for my situation. If you have a large studio or need a lot of bass, then get the TR8 XL's. The TR8's sound just as good as Mackie 6" speakers, but the TR8's cost a lot less. But if you're like me and want to save money, space, and don't want big bass driving your parents crazy in your home studio, then get the TR6's. They get the job done period! Way better than any home shelf speaker (Bose) you'll find at a retail store. The TR6's let you hear everything clearly, they get the job done, theyre great speakers, and they're relatively cheap! Highly recommend. I could have bought much more expensive monitors, but I dont want to since these work great and get the job done.
Support:
Easy to reach during business hours. Don't know how "expert" the people on the phon there are. Best thing to do is to hear the speakers yourself. Wish the warranty was a year, but it's probably only 90 days to make the speakers more affordable. Which I have no problem with since these speakers are built well and most likely won't break within a year if you use them responsibly.
Overall:
I expect to use these speakers until they break. If I have lots of money I'll buy better sounding monitors but these work great. I don't have any monitors to compare to really, but from the word on the street, Event speakers have the best value for the money and I agree. Compared to Bose 301 series shelf speakers, these kick ass. I cant imagine anything better for the money. Bottom line: these speakers get the job done, clear sound, accurate mixing, flat sound. For people on a budget, there is no better value.
