"Killer fender tone, light, easier to play, and some serious mojo..."
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Sound:
Sounds great, amazing pickups that are proprietary Seymour-Duncan/Fender made, that are mated perfectly with this wood, size, and body type to produce a classic Fender P-bass type tone with it's own character.
Feature:
One pickup, one volume knob, one tone knob. It's all this thing needs. You cannot get a bad tone with this thing. The neck is beautiful, I'm really impressed with the quality, as it's Made In Japan.
Ease of Use:
Plug it in to a decent bass amp or go direct into a quality computer interface and it will sound good. A touch of eq to taste and you're good to go.
Quality:
Very nice quality, made in Japan. The neck is smooth and has great poly finish.
Value:
It's not cheap, but you will be happy, especially if you have wrist problems, this thing is easier to play, but doesn't leave you lacking in tone.
The Wow Factor:
It has wow factor if you crank this baby through any quality sound system that can reproduce bass down to 25hz. I ran this 2012 Mustang bass through a spectrum analyzer, along with my 2012 Jazz, and they both go down to 25hz! I'm impressed.
Overall:
This Mustang bass is impressive, it's a comfortable and unique instrument, and sounds hi-fi, deep, clear, defined, and full of character. Excellent pickups couple with Leo Fender doing the math on his last design for Fender, woodwise, design, etc. It feels, plays and sounds GREAT, I cannot put this thing down. It's SO EASY TO PLAY, which makes you play way better. Just got a 2012 American Jazz too, which sounds slightly chunkier and "clankier" as it has more versatility dur to 2 pickups. But that's ok...I I compared the two basses through an RME UFX top notch interface. The mustang holds it's own for against the Jazz for half the price, 90% of the tone of the Jazz, very workable, you won't know it's a short scale if you close your eyes. The Mustang has a charm and mojo, I bonded with it instantly, it has the ease of playing a slim neck guitar, while still sounding a crazy deep Fender bass. It also looks cooler in person than the internet pics. Had to tweak the intonation when I got it though.
