"I've had two strataccoustics, and this is what think..."
Feature:
The lead in thru the strap button is nice feature. hardware feels good quality. The fact that the body top is not cut away at an angle for your forearm (per the electric strat) means you ave almost permenant blisters and raw skin on your forearm if you play it live a lot. (I'm not joking here!)
Quality:
This is the second one I've owned in two years (I broke the first one by knocking it off a stool I'd stupidly leaned it on so it was my fault not Fenders) both guitars developed a crack from the lower edge of the soundhole to the front of the body, bout an inch or so. Guy in the shop tells me its the duff struts inside, apparently they all do it, but it doesnt seem to get any worse or affect the sound. Battery for the pre amp was a pig to get out when I had to change it. One of the string pegs snapped the first time I changed the strings, and I had to drill the stuck peg out.
Value:
Good value for money, (hey it sez Fender on the end of the neck(tho why doesnt it say Strataccoustic? Fender too tight to pay out for the extra word? a good working guitar. Attracts a lot of attention at gigs.
Desirability:
I broke one and went out and bought another the same week. How much does that say about 'I want it?'
Sound:
Yes it sounds naff unplugged. Its a plastic body about three inches thick. Whaddya expect? Plug it in and it sparkles. You do need to get a set of decent strings on it as soon as you can. Very playable neck, but not for the 'diddly diddly' speed freaks. The best amplified acoustic sound I've had in 25 years of playing...and so far never a hint of feedback when paying live, tho there is a tendancy for sympathetic resonance from open strings at volume, but hey...it's a fender and it looks soo cool!
Overall:
I think it will be a long time before I look elsewhere. I originally didnt want one of these I was just going to buy a strat, ut the guiarist in the band talked me into it. Now I wouldn;t part.
