"Cheap? No. Wow? Yes."
Feature:
Quality hardshell case with that gorgeous purple lining makes a snug fit for the guitar, and should protect it from the trials and tribulation of gigging. The Gibson logo on the case makes me think I've finally arrived in the big league. However, for the money I do think that Gibson could have included a good strap and lead like Fender do.
Quality:
The AA flame top is fantastic. The plastic tuning keys may look cheap, but above all they look authentic. The nitrocellulose finish was perfect. I am careful not to knock it and I do worry about the headstock and rubber-covered guitar stands are out, but again these are "authentic LP Standard features". I am as picky as all-get-out on "incorrect" aspects on guitars, but this is as near to a genuine 1960 LP Standard as I'm ever going to get without a mortgage and a divorce.
Value:
As a guitar, it's not cheap. I could have got two Strats for the money, but that's not the issue. It is a real, solid, flamed, cherry sunburst Gibson Les Paul, and it plays and sounds like one! If it's good enough for Jimmy Page, it's plenty good enough for me!
Desirability:
I gig it and it makes people look twice. I polish it carefully and clean it after every single use, which I don't often do with my other guitars. I have it hanging on the wall opposite my bed, and sometimes I just lie back and admire it. If I never gigged it again I would still be happy to leave it on my wall. The Gibson logo, the flame, the Les Paul signature...
Sound:
I originally went into my local music store to buy an Epiphone Les Paul. I wasn't all that impressed, and tried a 1975 Gibson. Nope. Then I picked up the new LP Standard. Wow! lovely blues sounds from the neck PU, and cranking up the volume and gain on a Marshall gave fantastic raunch on the bridge PU. With both pickups on the sound was uniquely Gibson. I was sold in seconds but still played it for half an hour!
Support:
Not applicable. No fuss, no muss.
Overall:
I have been playing guitar for 20 years and the LP is my 16th guitar. My first guitar was a relatively cheap LP Custom copy and I PXd it without a second thought. But this is a GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD. I made it! I have five other guitars, some of which I'm more fond of than others, some of which I would sell without a qualm. But this one is sacrosanct. I don't see me ever getting rid of it. If you can afford one, buy it!
