"The best in-ear monitor solution for the money - period!"
Feature:The 64-preset channels provide excellent frequency coverage in the 682-698 MHz range. The multiple inputs and stereo/mono switch with independent volume/balance knobs permit lots of flexibility to hear your voice/instrument as well as the total mix. The ability to use AA rather than 9volt batteries is a real plus - being able to use rechargeables makes it even better. Range is excellent - sound quality is great at up to about 200 feet (as far as I have tested).
Quality:
The transmitter is a metal, half-rack box with controls (power, frequency select, balance/volume knobs) on the front. Lighted display shows freqencies in use, and peak output. External headphones can be connected on the face. Remaining inputs (power, line-in, and microphone/instrument) are on the back. 8-in antenna attaches to rear panel. Seems sturdy, and travels well in rack system. An external antenna mount would be greatly appreciated, but may not be essential. The body pack is a little large (1x3x4) but seems solid, and does provide diversity (2 receivers, 2 antennas). The volume control and on/off switch are easily accessible. The freqency selector is within the battery compartment - easily (but not too easily) accessible. Belt clip is pretty flimsy - I used Velcro to make certain it didn't fall off while in use. Ear buds leave a lot to be desired - third party buds are recommended.
Value:
When fitted with better earbuds, this unit compares well to competing brands costing several hundred dollars more. The sound quality is great, the range is excellent (auto-mute if you get out of range is a real plus).
Desirability:
In ear monitors are definitely the way to go! And this unit lets you get real professional quality for a fraction of the price you'd expect to pay. After years of lugging stage monitors around, and still not hearing the 'left-side' vocals and rhythms, I've finally found the ultimate accessory for a lead quitarist.
Sound:
The AS1000 as packaged provides good-to-very-good sound quality, with much stronger low frequency response than a 'HotSpot' user would anticipate - clearly outperforms Nady PEM500. Third-party earbuds or phones are strongly recommended for this unit - with them, AS1000 sound quality (very good-excellent) compares well with Shure (P2, P4), Sennheiser 300 systems.
Ease of Use:
Setup is intuitive. The system default frequency setting (Group1, Channel1 or 682.375 MHz) worked right out of the box - just connect the antenna, plug in the transmitter, add batteries to the receiver, and listen away.
Support:
I don't anticipate any issues. Galaxy is easy to reach and quite responsive. No problems to report.
Overall:
This is a real keeper. I would like to see better ear buds, a better belt-loop solution, and remote antenna mounting solutions - but my music has never sounded better.
