"Pretty Darn Cool Effect"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Feature:
Although I don't actually own this pedal yet, I understand that the features included within make it a valuable addition to a person's pedal board. Its main use is for guitar, but there is a switch on the pedal that widens or narrows the frequency range, letting you use it with vocals or even drums [I think they mean electronic drums.] I'm afraid with my guitar, however, that the sound will be corrupted either way - my pickups are crappy single-coils. Bleagh.
Quality:
I'd have to say that Ibanez makes great effects pedals - they're made from sturdy metal-or-something and they call them stompboxes for a reason. The sounds, however, depend entirely upon the user and his/her equipment. I, for example, have a 'cheap' guitar and a so-so amp, as well as 'okay' cables. I'm absolutely positive that Ibanez's effects sound crystal clear and they're selling what they say they are, because I've tried many out at a local music store. The Tone-Lok series is reliable in every sense of the word.
Value:
Due to the versatility of this one pedal, and the uniqueness of its sound, the value [in my opinion] is tripled. It's like having three pedals right there. One for vocals, one for drums, and one, of course, for guitar.
Desirability:
The industrial metal housing and tough-looking design give the Ibanez Tone-Lok pedals an edge against competitors. ALSO, the cool little 'identification' labels [ex. 'LF7', 'PM7', etc.] with their separate colors give the pedals their own 'personality' [maybe I'm just weird] and make it easy to tell them apart on stage. Even on a dimly-lit stage - the reflective surface of the labels and the bold lettering is easily seen.
Sound:
This is a very unique effect, and from what I've heard from Ibanez.com's soundbytes for this little guy, it seems very versatile. It has a nice emulation of vintage radios and megaphones, giving your sound a far-off, 'old' sound.
Unfortunately, the quality of the sound bytes I've heard from around the net are sub-par, and it tore me apart. I spent a week contemplating whether or not to buy this...
Support:
Okay, I rated this a 10 because there wasn't a 'No Answer' option - these things have lasted through thick and thin, and I haven't had to contact Ibanez.
Overall:
I'd buy all the Ibanez effects. This Lo-Fi is one I've wanted for a while now, and I look forward to getting the others. They seem to work well with each other.
