"40 years of playing drums....I like'em!!"
Feature:Features are good, once you figure them out. The manual isn't the best or does it explain the module useage very well, but with a little 'exploring' is easy to use, once you figure out all the buttons, etc. Came with everything needed to start playing. What brings this down to a '6' rating is the foot triggers. The bass drum kick pedal is waaaay too responsive. Sometimes gives 3-4 or more beats when it is pressed down. Sometimes it beats on the downward press of the pedal, then another beat when the pedal is released. The hi-hat pedal is somewhat the same, however I can live with that, but the bass pedal really throws me off on my playing. At times it actually works pretty well, but few and far between when this happens. I plan on replacing it with a pad and pedal after reading other reviews I have read that this can be done, so that is my next route to eliminate this problem. Even if I have to buy that setup, which looks like will cost around 150.00...still makes an inexpensive electronic drum set.
Quality:
I have no problems at all with the quality. Some reviews have stated that the wing nuts keep loosening or falling off, or the drums move around, but I haven't had this problem. I would think you would have to 'pound' really hard to loosen the drums enough to move around on the stand, or to loosen the nuts while playing. Beating them hard is not needed. I am not that 'soft' of a player, but also do not try to knock them off the stand either. Never had a problem with the wing nuts myself.
Value:
I think is well worth the money...I recieved it as a Christmas gift from my wife, so was VERY good for me price-wise :o)
Desirability:
I think the set looks good...stand is sturdy, all hardware fits good. Drums are very responsive...actually probably more-so than my 1975 Ludwigs which is my other set I have used since 1977. Come to think of it...I haven't played those, since getting this set!! However I would never sell my ol Ludwigs!!
Sound:
This set sounds great, as far as I'm concerned. I have played drums for around 40 years. I hooked this set up to my P A system, which is the Johnson brand, with 4 15" cabinet speakers. I have played in bands, was a disco drummer back in the 70's, and presently only play along with C D's in my garage. The sound as I said, is great in my opinion. I had looked at higher dollar sets, but for just garage playing didn't want to put out the high $$$, so thought I would start with the less expensive set....I doubt if I'll replace these with a higher dollar set, these seem to work fine for what I use them for. I would play them in a live setting, if the occassion arises.
Ease of Use:
Is pretty easy to use...as I said earlier, the manual isn't real helpful, but isn't too tough to figure out on your own, with a little experimentation.
Support:
I had emailed support to ask their opinion or suggestions on replacing the bass kick pedal, and have heard nothing from them. Only by reading reviews did I learn that you could add the regular kick pedal with the bass pad setup...from another brand...and add to this set. I haven't bought this kick set=up yet, so as for me, I can't say at this point how it works..or will work. I would think it would cure the problem however.
Overall:
I plan to buy the 2 expansion pads when they get restocked. I also plan to buy a bass pad and pedal to hook up to these drums. Other than that, will keep and play these as long as they are playable!!
