"Simply Amazing!"
Sound:
Simply amazing !! I listened to a few solid-tsate recorders before buying the MR-1000 (Marantz PMD671, Frostex FR2) They all sounded very good, but none of them can record at 1-bit DSD. The difference: DSD is more detailed, gives the full analogue-feeling! I played the unfortunately much too short, pre-recorded exerpts on the HDD many times! Can get enough of them! (All Most Blues and The Wind And The Wheat: Each 1bit 5.6mbit/sec 1.5mins 120MB(!)
The world-famous Burr-Brown and Cirrus-Logic digital procesors make this little monster sound exellent, even at the lowest setting !!! (CD-quality 16-bits 44.1 kHz WAV)
And: I heard a few headphone-amps in my life, but I never heard one this dynamic, low-distorted, smooth, detailed and powerfull!
Small drawback: I you fully want to enjoy the 1-bit performance, I need high-quality mic's. But if you have access to a quality studio, the MR-1000 definitely feels at home!
This is a 40 GB HDD-recorder, but even with my ear on top of the device, virtually no sounds like moving HDD-heads of spinning disks can be heard. Tell me this is a solid-state (flash-)-recorder and I would beleve you !
On sound-quality (1 - 10) I would give a 12 !! But unfortunately: 10 is the max possible!
Feature:
No nonscence quality: Concentrating on (super-) high quality stereo recording means no sound-reverb or other features, this would only make it more expensive! You can do reverbs with software as well.
The included AudioGate software makes the pakkage complete enough (in my opinion)
Usefull: Included carrying-bag with access to the Mic-inputs at the bottom!
Ease of Use:
Buy it, place the batts, or connect it to an outlet (with adaptor) switch it on, connect headphones, press play, and enjoy the high quality exerpts, pre-recorded on the HDD !! Its that simple!
After a few minutes of playing with the controlls, you will have no problems with the menu-structure.
Quality:
Ofcource, with a HDD-recorder, you must be a bit more carefull not to drasticly move the device during operation. The design is quite solid (aluminum casing with plastic battery-cover on top) The size is similar to a standard car-stereo.
I hope Korg inserted high quality pot's for setting record-level and phones-level..
Manufacturer Support:
The only thing I can say: Korg has a good website with the newest system-software (1.5.1 at the moment) and other support.
Value:
The pricetag is extremely low for a device with a quality like this!
Even at lowest setting it would be worth every dollar!
The Wow Factor:
I wanted it, now I have it, I wanted it more than I thought !!
Overall:
This is a device, made for (ultra-) high quality stereo-field (or studio) recording. Korg spent more than every dollar you spend on it to acheve this.
