"LANEY GH50L or GH100L The best all tube "One and a Boost" channel amps you can buy for a grand!"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
This head and the Laney 4x12 speaker cabinets sound wonderful. It may be 50 watts but through two cabs it moves a lot of air! I use Fender Strats all with single coil pickups and I get the most beautiful harmonic overtones when the gain is down and the master volume is up high It beats any Marshall that I've ever heard! Get the foot switch. It allows you to go from great clean with a little bite straight to singing overdrive with one tap of your foot. Also you can use a boost pedal like a Big Muff Pi or use what I use which is the POD X3 Live! I selected the very realistic HIWATT DR-103 model and an overdrive effect for when i need it and when I would bend and hold a note above the 7th fret the sustain and overtones would really shine! This amp was built in England and has the same tubes as a
HIWATT amp has. That's why I initially bought it. Why am I buying another one? Because I need a fantastic amp and cabs for the stereo effect of my POD X3 Live. Plus I just want to have another fantastic, reasonably priced amp.
The only thing that I might change is I would swap the transformers for partridges.
I wis the back of the amp was a little more substantial than the "cage" it has in back other than that, it is a good looking amp and well built.
Never had any trouble. (Knock on wood.)
It is a very fair price for a British class A/B amp! Compare it to a Marshall or a HIWATT they are crazy expensive! Laney seems to have kept the prices rather sane on these amps and their cabinets.
The Wow Factor:
It looks as good as it sounds. Sometimes I just look at it and smile!
If I could afford a HIWATT I'd probably buy one of those but I could get more than three of these Laney amps for the price of one HIWATT.
