"Very pretty, but also very functional...."
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Sound:
The sound of this guitar is somewhat disappointing. There is balance and clarity but no volume or projection at all. Sustain is pretty fair but this guitar is very soft voiced. I have not tried to amplify it but it may do pretty well in that context because as I say, it is balanced and very clear. It would probably be best if one used it in the same way you would use a parlor guitar. Small, intimate room where you could sit down and do some finger picking or work out new songs. It does have a pleasing sound but if volume is what you are looking for then look somewhere else.
Feature:
Features are pretty much on par with other guitars in this price range. It does have a front strap button which many acoustics do not have. Both buttons are mounted with felt protectors. Nice little touch. There is no pickguard but that's no big deal. It would partially cover a very pretty celtic soundhole rosette anyway.
Ease of Use:
This is a very playable guitar. Action is very low and the slim neck makes it very easy to form even the most complex chords. There is no fret buzz anywhere on the neck. The frets are very well done. Smooth and consistent with no sharp edges. This would make a great beginners guitar as it has one of the easiest necks I've ever navigated through.
Quality:
Very well made. Fit and finish is outstanding. Tuners are smooth and don't slip. Guitar stays in tune very well. All components are comparable to most guitars in this price range. I found no blemishes of any kind anywhere. Luna has done a good job in building this one.
Manufacturer Support:
I have not had to deal with anything pertaining to customer support. This guitar was flawless from the start.
Value:
I think overall this guitar is a good value for the money.
The Wow Factor:
All Luna guitars have high sex appeal. This one has a celtic theme with a very aesthetically pleasing knot rosette. It has a soft satin finish which I think is beautiful. Even the metal components have a satin finish. It also has black binding which greatly compliments the overall softness of the design. I hate white binding on guitars. It is so often intrusive to the overall appeal of a guitar. The position markers show the moon in phases as you do down the neck. I think all Lunas have this. All Luna guitars are works of art.
Overall:
I am a collector of acoustic guitars and this one I bought mostly because of the way it looks. I like the approach that Yvonne DeVilliers took when she set out to make Lunas. They are the most artistic guitars on the market, but they are also very well made and designed to be very playable. My only concern with this particular model is that it really lacks volume. A solid spruce top would have went a long way in solving this problem but you can get that as you move up the ladder of Lunas different models. You get what you pay for and Luna has something for everybody.
