"Bargain multi-pattern condenser, have a listen and see for yourself."
Feature:
Fantastic, the only mic at this price which offers multiple patterns, to my knowledge. All you need in one! Nice that it comes with shockmount and box - getting a shockmount could add 30% onto your total outlay otherwise.
Quality:
Seems very solid. Point about the shockmount detracts 1 point.
Value:
Great value, the choice for me was between a quality cardioid condenser (e.g. Rode N1000) or the multi-pattern Solaris at possibly reduced sound quality. I don't regret choosing the Solaris, and you'd be hard-pushed to find better features for the price.
Desirability:
The aesthetics pale in importance compared to the practicalities, but it seems some people like the look of it. It grew on me after initial reactions of mild distaste.
Sound:
For the price it's a great sound. A couple of reviews I've seen have said that it is a little harsh in the upper end of the spectrum, and I think this is probably a fair comment. Not a deal-breaker for me though, and the sonic detail is great. So far I've used it with low output acoustic instruments and vocals, for which it has performed well, although it might not suit everyone's voice. I've heard good things about its use as an overheard too.
Support:
Haven't had to deal with this item, but past experience with M-Audio has been very positive.
Overall:
If you want a versatile condenser mic with a nice sound at a very reasonable price, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
