"Martin M-36: The perfect dream guitar"
Sound is robust, full, warm with lots of volume. High strings sing like a bell. Guitar is very balanced and can be driven with hard strumming if desired or gently finger picked for beautiful melodies. Guitar responds well to all types of music, dropped tunings, and alternate chord shapes. I've played many guitars over the last 30+ years but this one is super special. The sound is so perfect and satisfying that I am constantly content, never wanting anything more. I hesitate even changing old warn-out strings simply because they still sound so great.
Nice low profile neck makes playing the M-36 a breeze and a pleasure. Before I really liked the Taylor necks and I am very happy Martin utilizes this neck on this guitar. The color of the wood top is georgous. The ebony finger board with pearl dots is simple but elegant. Overall the guitar is perfect with super-high build quality. The 3-piece rosewood back is both beautiful and lends a special sound quality to this instrument. Guitar comes with high quality components such as a bone nut and saddle. Tuners are large and easy to use and stay in tune.
Ease of Use:
Easy to play and fits quite nicely. The 0000 size is perfect without being too big and yet helps get a nice volume from the quitar. The thickness is like that of an Auditorium 000 size which again makes for very comfortable playing. Neck is perfect and very fast.
I could not ask for a better built instrument. The Martin literature is informative and helpful. Guitar case fits perfect and is made of high quality materials. The rosewood back is beautiful and the spruce vintage top has a beautiful color. Photos simply do not do this guitar the justice it deserves.
I have not had to deal with Martin on any issue with this guitar.
Martin makes many different levels of instruments for every budget and style of playing. I have never owned another guitar that makes me as happy, that makes me rush home to play, as this M-36. While it is not the fanciest guitar in terms of looks, it has everything that is needed when music, tone, and playabilty matters the most. While it is not exactly inexpensive, it is definitely worth every single penny. I would have been happy even if it had cost more.
The Wow Factor:
Like I mentioned above; it does not have all the fancy abalone rings and circles. I would rather pay for tone and quality. However I find the guitar absolutely beautiful, simple and understated but classy. My friends have commented many, many times on the sound of the M-36 and how pretty it is, especially the color of the vintage spruce top. If something happened to this guitar I would die. Then I would go buy another one, no matter the price.
I cannot ever imagine selling this instrument. I hope to hand it down to a son or daughter someday. And I hope he or she will remember me playing it for them as they were growing-up. This is truly a universal instrument for all kinds of playing styles. So why change something that is already perfect? There is nothing about the M-36 that I do not like. I love everything about it.
