"A Decent Instrument Mic"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Cardioid and omni caps. Has pad and bass rolloff, but they are on the same switch, so you cannot do both. Does not come with a shockmount, but a good one is available for it for $35.
Quality:
Seems to be made well.
Value:
Great value.
Desirability:
I would be interested in what a pair would sound like on my acoustic guitar.
Sound:
Sound is heavy on the mid-range, some decent highs, not much bass, in comparison to my SM81s. Good clean, fairly detailed sound, just tends to be mid-rangey. Output is very good -- I need less preamp on this mic than any of the other 5 mics I own. Output is a little more than a Rode NT1-a, much higher than my SM81s.
Ease of Use:
Simple to use.
Support:
Have not needed support.
Overall:
I have a pair of SM81s, which I prefer for acoustic guitar, but if the SM81s are in use or I have to mic more acoustic, I would go to the 604 before any other of my mics. It might work well in combination with a Studio Projects B3, which has good bass and highs but lacks mid-range (to my ears).
