"Awesome box"
This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.
Sound:
As awesome as you can possibly imagine for a $250 unit. It's not a $2,500 API or Neve preamp, but obviously that's a whole different ball park. Still holds up well against that level of stuff though, surprisingly.
Feature:
Daisy-chainable with other firestudio stuff, bus powered, level LED's on the two XLR's are nice.
Ease of Use:
A little funky how the universal control program works when daisy-chained to the firestudio 26 - it actually pops up with a separate version of the program for each unit. I think if you have a newer firestudio (like firestudio project) it is supposed to be all in the same window. In any case it works for me, just a little weird in terms of the user interface.
Quality:
Thing is built like a mini-tank. It's one piece of gear that I don't worry about breaking when on the road.
Manufacturer Support:
Decent support - not always extremely knowledgeable to the Nth degree, but english speaking and generally able to debug problems and answer most questions. I needed some help figuring out how to daisy-chain with my other unit (turned out to be simpler than I thought) and had a question about clocking and got that all sorted out with tech support's help.
Value:
Ridiculous value in my opinion...surprised these aren't more widely used.
The Wow Factor:
Looks nice with the blue LED's in a dimly lit environment.
Overall:
This has been one of the most useful units I've bought in a long time. I already had the original (8 input) Firestudio 26 so I knew the quality was great, but the Mobile is just so freakin handy in a number of situations. The fact that it is bus powered is actually pretty huge - one of those things that doesn't seem like a big deal until you actually own it and are using it. SO great to just be able to pull it out, plug it into the computer with ONE cable and have it up and running - so convenient and portable. It's great to not have to pull my firestudio 26 out of my main rig every time I need to do something simple like record a video or play something back through my monitors, or play a solo gig where I don't need a lot of XLR inputs. I'm pretty psyched that it has SIX 1/4" TRS ins in addition to the two XLR's too (all usable simultaneously.) The fact that it's daisy-chainable with my firestudio 26 is awesome too, so with one firewire cable I can now have 16 analog inputs, in one and a third rack spaces! Best $250 I've spent in a long, long time. Genuinely psyched about this unit.
