"Best ABY Amp Switcher on the planet"
Feature:
The LED's to indicate what's on and going where, the phase and lift (isolation) for the amp output is extremely useful because you can handle any situation.
Quality:
This thing is HEAVY. It's smaller than the box it ships in and it's like a brick. It comes with optional little rubber feet, or you can just velcro the thing to your pedal board. The foot switches seem easier to use than some pedals I've used. There's a click when you switch, but it doesn't seem to take a lot of pressure to do it.
Value:
If you have been considering the Radial JX-2 but have waited for a smaller more affordable pedal version, this is it! If you're tried other ABY amp switchers and heard your tone disappear, this is one that won't do that.
Desirability:
I'm not sure pedals have "appeal" other than fit and function. I find this one fits its function perfectly.
Sound:
I use this ABY switcher to drive a solid state amp and a tube amp. With standard switchers (no electronics) I've suffered volume loss, tone when down the tube with the volume, and at a glance, you couldn't be sure what was on, and what wasn't. I've tried many solutions and have been waiting on this since Radial announced it last fall.
I A/B'd this pedal to see what it would do in and out of circuit and there is a slight gain (maybe .5db) with it on but at the same time, it seems like it enhances the tonal range ever so slightly. Unless you A/B yourself, you'd never know you're using it since the variation is so minute.
Ease of Use:
The only control you "might" have to adjust is the "drag" and that's if the pickups on your guitar get loaded up because you're going directly from your guitar to this pedal. If you plan on running through other pedals in front of this one, I found you can just leave it at the factory default.
One thing you should be aware of is that this pedal requires an AC adapter. It will NOT run off your 9V battery and there is no place you can put one anyway. I'd suggest using something like one of those BBS Supachargers with multiple outputs for all your pedals. It works better than the sincgle adapter with a daisy chain of power plugs (less noise).
Support:
Never had to use product support on any Radial product. But they're local to me so it wouldn't be a big deal.
Overall:
If this one went missing or I needed another one, I would buy another in a heartbeat.
