"Don't waste your money"
Quality:I am now purchasing a EV-7. Hope I have better luck than the 6 months of use with the Ev-5 before it malfunctioned.
Value:
Didn't know I was buying a throw away item.
Sound:
Was ok when it worked. Within 6 months, it was acting erratically. Used as volume control for my RD-700. Could not get a smooth volume response. Pressing on pedal would dampen the sound or create a burst of volume.
Overall:
Don't waste your money on this. The Roland RD-700 deserves better.

"Don't waste your money. Mine died after 90 days. Too lightweight."
Quality:Don't waste your money. I bought this because I didn't want to pay $150 for the heavier-duty EV-7. But the EV-5 is exactly what most reviewer claim: it's a lightweight, overpriced piece of junk. I wish I'd listened to them. After 90 days of light use, the EV-5 started behaving completely erratically, producing sudden bursts of high volume or suddenly dampening all sound. Naturally, this occurred just before a performance...
Sound:
Pedal travel is too short to allow precise volume control. Sometimes, it seemed to work erratically (which can be disastrous).
Support:
We'll see. It too many phone calls to get through to the correct department. First they said it wasn't covered by warranty. Then they checked and said "OK." I sent it back on warranty. They say they'll fix it, but it seems that the problem is in the design, not a defect, so we'll see. . .
Overall:
I'm buying an EV-7, which while grotesquely overpriced will, hopefully, last more than 90 days.
