...as with all the other DJ's who own this system...when you have a dance floor full of people and they are counting steps for a particular dance, and the system stops dead...the dancer's dont like it and neither does the clubs' owners....normally, you will not be asked back...if you still have this system....buy Denon...

Support:

"That was a mistake"

Feature:
It really doesn't come with much at all. I was hoping all three items in the case (CD players and mixer) would all be connected to a built-in AC power bus, with a power input plug on the outside of the case, but no such luck. You have to run three separate power cords outside the case and connect them to your own power strip.

Quality:
If you read my notes under "Sound" you can guess why I give the Digipak low marks for quality. You just can't have CD players that skip when the music gets loud. Aside from that problem, I wasn't thrilled with the construction of the case itself. I don't think it would hold up to long-term use on the road. The case seems to be wooden with a plastic laminate on the outside, held together with aluminum trim hardware. It should be ALL metal, or at least heavy roto-molded plastic and metal. The hole in the back that your power and audio cables pass through had a plastic grommet that came unglued and fell out almost immediately; that looked pretty cheesy. The mix board is held in place by four wood screws -- how long do you figure it'll be before those screws pull out? Oh, and get this -- the CD players are not held in place at all! You'll discover this if you accidentally open the case upside-down -- your CD players will fall right out.

Value:
In short, no.

Desirability:
I bought this item because of the convenience appeal -- everything in one portable case that I could just plug into my amp and be ready to go. It did live up to that expectation, but as a professional DJ, I'll trade some convenience points for professional quality.

Sound:
I suppose there's really nothing wrong with the actual sound from this product, the output was clear, without any of the hiss or hum that some mixers have. My one complaint with the Digipak's performance, and this is a HUGE complaint, is that whenever I've been out on the road playing a gig and I crank the volume (through a 400-watt QSC amp and a pair of Bose 802 speakers), if there's any bass at all in the music, the CD players (both of them) will actually skip. For exampple, I could never play Nelly's "Hot in Here" without the music stopping cold three or four times. For a professional DJ, that's inexcusable. I tried putting a blanket under the case to dampen the bass vibes, and that helps some, but doesn't completely eliminate the problem. My Digipak is now for sale (at 40% off) because of this -- I've upgraded to some truly professional equipment.

Overall:
I became disenchanted with this product almost immediately. Parts began falling off almost as soon as I got it out of the box, and of course, the CD players started skipping at my first gig with this product, and continued at every gig after that. I've owned the Digipak for about nine months, and it's now been replaced with some professional Denon equipment. What did I like most? The convenience. Least? The skipping CD players and the flimsy construction of the case.
