"Excellent intro into digital recording with power and features to go beyond the beginner."

Feature:
The fx are some of the best I've heard in a digital recorder. This is why I chose the DP-01FX over the plain 01 and over other machines. The $100 difference definitely worth it - XLR's, phantom power and fx are a bargain. Wish it had a built in metronome (it's a menu option but must be connected to external midi.)

Quality:
Having played with other similar units, the Tascam appears and feels durable and beefy.

Value:
After researching different units for over a month, I'm VERY pleased with the value of my purchase.

Desirability:
I love the knobs for EQ and FX levels. When I pull it out to record a live gig, people are impressed. It's just a darn good machine.

Sound:
The sound is what you'd expect from digital: clean and true.

Support:
Although I haven't used Tascam's support for the DP-01FX, I have emailed a few questions and have not heard back.

Overall:
I'll keep this forever, perhaps pass it down to my musical kids. I may add a midi down the road but for now I prefer strictly acoustic instruments and voices.

"Inexpensive digital recorder designed with the guitar player in mind! Pretty cool and easy to use."

Feature:
Pretty easy to record with after reading the manual. You really should read the manual to start. I haven't tried to load on my computer yet. You can do that and then burn to CD if your computer is so equiped. 40 gigs of internal memory seems like a lot of room compared to the other units I was looking at before this came out. So far I have 1 song, about 5 minutes long and 10 total tracks on it and the demo that came on the machine is still taking up room and there is lots of space left for more recording.

Quality:
It's Tascam and I've never had a problem with their stuff before.

Value:
Lots of bang for the buck, I think!

Desirability:
It's the next logical step for me. I'm going from my old Portastudio to the digital version.

Sound:
This is a very quiet unit. Sound quality is what you put in. It records what goes in...good or bad. There are effects for guitar, bass, vocals and percussion/drums. A little limited if you ask me but very usable for drums, bass and vocals. Guitar effects leave alot of room for improvement. I use Stratocaster and Gibson SG mostly and the effects really aren't that good. However, the bass effects really help my cheapo bass guitar. Also has midi to connect your drum machine!

Support:
Never had to deal with them so I don't know.

Overall:
Well, my old Portastudio 4 track tape deck did what I wanted it to do for about 16 years so why wouldn't this do the same?
