"Great No Nonsense Recorder - But It, Use It, Love It"

Sound:

The microphones are very sensitive to noise of the unit itself - like pressing the record button, positioning the unit, etc. So, just be aware of this and expect to have to edit out some of these noises. Remote mics would help a lot I am sure.

Feature:

Very nice unit. Easy to use, but has a lot of adjustability if you need it. Records to SD cards in MP3 or wav format, so no finalizing or exporting of the files is needed. I also like that the unit runs on AA batteries, so rather than have to buy an expensive replacement battery, just pack a few extra AAs. Tripod socket on bottom of unit and very small rubber pads on bottom of unit (instead of just hard plastic bumps) are very nice features that many people may not notice, but they will come in handy. The layout of the controls is a little odd on te side of the unit. The Output Level control (headphone volume) is next to the Line In jack, and the headphone / Line Out jack is closer to the Rec Level control. Just seems odd to me.

Ease of Use:

Very easy to start using. Just press the REC button and it flashes to show it is ready to go, Press it again to start recording. Press STOP when you are done and take the SD card out and plug it into your computer to retrieve the files.

Quality:

Seems to be well built. Hard plastic body seems like it might crack if dropped, so be careful. A nice rubberized "body glove" would be nice to have. I haven't used it enough out in the field or on the road to really just its durability yet, but it is an incredible little machine for just a hundred bucks - take care of it.

Manufacturer Support:

Don't know yet, no problems yet.

Value:

I think it is an incredible value for the price, many near professional features in a solidly built unit from a great name in the industry.

The Wow Factor:

Looks "no nonsense" and professional, which is what I wanted. It isn't "cute" or "glitzy", and that's a good thing in my mind.

Overall:

I expect to have this nice recorder for a long time. It's not the smallest unit out there, but I like the features. I can't imagine what else this unit could have. Sure, it would be nice if it came with an AC adapter, rugged rubberized case, a carrying bag, and a nice remote mic, but then it would cost twice as much and I probably wouldn't have bought it. I'm satisfied adding those items on my own.
