    "SANSAMP BASS DRIVER=GREAT PRODUCT!"

    Sound:
Where to begin... OK, I have two hartke XL 4x10's, hartke mellinium HA4000 amp,Line 6 Bass POD Pro, Nady wireless UHF UR_10 ,Furman Series II PL-8 line conditioner, and I play a Fender American P-Bass. I love my rig, I thought I mastered my tone with all of this equipment...until I researched and recently bought the Tech21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI. Put it this way... I plugged it in and turned it on, Before even fumbling around with the settings for the first time... I already heard an incredible difference in my bass tone. My brights were brighter...my lows were fat and punchy (the kind of tone you would 90% of the time hear when you go see a professional musician). I dont know how I made it this far playing bass with out one of these. If you are looking for quality compression, tube emulation, sustaining harmonics, PHAT BOTTOMS... SansAmp BDDI is what you want...and once you plug it in...youll never turn it off. One thing that I'll have to say about it that would be considered a blemish to the product is this.... in the manual, it states that the amp should be ran before your outside effects processors (in my case my POD Pro) to get the truest sound outta the amp. Instead I got a thick, muddy, muffled tone that actually made my rig sound worse... soooo I recommend using your sansamp as a stomp box daisy chained between your power amp and your bass guitar... i tried it both ways and its a night and day difference. This is the best piece of equipment that i bought... i had a vision and the sansamp gave me exactly that. No matter your playing style...bassists from all around will enjoy a SANSAMP BASS DRIVER.
    Feature:
Knobs are pretty basic but amazingly powerful... you have bass, treble, drive, presence, and level. bass/treble=self explanatory, drive=to add punchyness, level-basically to adjust volume... and my favorite PRESENCE=allows your to bring out that bright stringy portion of your tone while maintaining phatty lows (if you like punk music like new found glory or something...you know what i mean). i like nearly cracking both presence and bass alittle more than the rest.... to grab both ends of your bass tone. sounds alittle much but the built in compression brings it all together nicely.
    Overall:
if i get rid of everything i have affiliated with bass and replace it all with better equipment.... the only thing i would keep is the sansamp... god honest truth... try it

    Style of Music: whatever pays

Experience: Active Bass God, ok, not really

"You must have this product if you are a serious player."

    Sound:
Ok, this is little complicated. I got rid of my SVT 300 cl (the greatest bass amp EVER) because it was just to heavy to lug around. I got the SABDDI and go directly into a bluetube tube pre amp with the gain up about half way. Then to the QSC and onward to the Ampeg 4x10 BXT. You better have a kick ass bass because your not hiding your sound behind much. YOUR fingering techniqe and your bass will be key becuase this is a clean sound. If you got the goods though this set up will rip your face off. imagine playing a bass that sounds like a low E on a Steinway. Puts the GRRRR in Growlll baby. I do have one complaint about this set up. You lose the ability to get a warm 70s tone with it. Maybe if you have an active pre amp on your bass you can get that sound. If not and you dont want to sound like Chris Squire, John Entwistle or Geddy Lee all the time you better get another pre to go with it.
    Feature:
Not much to it. It is what it is. If you need a parametric eq then better get another rig.
    Ease of Use:
Basic set up is easy but the tone and gain controls are VERY sensitive. Good thing is that since you have no tubes your not likely to "drift". Once set you should be good to go all night long.
    Quality:
TANK. After WWIII there will be roaches and a bunch of SABDDI boxes ready to rock left behind.
    Manufacturer Support:
Call and talk to em. They answer the phone and love to talk about the products.
    Value:
I agree with a prior critic. What's the deal. Cannot be more than 20 bucks worth of raw material here. Then again if you broke Pam Anderson down to her basic componants you would probably have about the same cost of raw material. And what would ya pay to have that in your rack.....
    The Wow Factor:
This is something every bass player should have. Even if you love your bass preamp you cannot go wrong having this available. Any club sound guy will thank you for having it.

"Definitely not bad, but I think the overall tone falls short of the hype"

This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.

    Sound:
Not bad, but after all the hype, I was not blown away. Wish it had mid eq. For direct recording, I was previously using a marshall jmp-1 which I already own but it hums a bit so I tried this...I might go back to the jmp unless I find something else.
    Feature:
I like simplicity, and the knobs really do offer a wide palette of sounds.
    Ease of Use:
    Like above...simplicity is best
    Quality:
You can tell this thing is rugged
    Manufacturer Support:
    have not had to contact
    Value:
Dont see why it is so expensive (not a million bucks, but would seem that for simple circuitry, it should be a little cheaper.
    The Wow Factor:
The appeal is huge--everyone raves about it, so I had to get it too. Like I said, I was disappointed, but will hang onto it...maybe need to fiddle with it more
    Overall:
I'm sure this will last for years, but I will still seek out another solution for recording direct.
