"Ultimate Support LIVESB: Handy but heavy, and one very weak point"

    Quality:
I am 6'4", so I wanted a mic stand (I'm lead singer) that was tall enough without being modded. I decided to go lux with one of these higher end Ultimate mic stands. PROS: It is more than tall enough for a person of my height. The clutch for adjusting the height of the stand is a nice improvement over the usual twist-type. The stand is very solidly built with the exceptions listed below. CONS: The clutch is a big bulky thing near your face at the top of the stand - distracting? Could be. The stand is VERY heavy due to the particular construction of the cast-metal base. Worst of all, though, is a weak point in construction where the pole screws into the base. You will be tempted to use a lot of strength to make sure it is screwed in tightly. DO NOT! It is easy to get enough torque on the pole to break the cheap interface between the pole screw-part and the pole itself - I did. Now you are no longer able to easily screw or unscrew the pole from the base. My solution: drill a tiny hole through the pole into the screw-part, and put a little screw into that hole. That keeps the two from separating.
