He is quite pleased with the responsiveness and its compatibility with his style. I understand he is exploring all the different sound settings, something not possible with his drum set. He says he is thinking much more out of the box now that he has this kit.

So far he has not mentioned anything not useful to him. He's had it for a little less than a month with somewhat limited time to get totally familiar. But he is more than qualified to say he loves every minute of playing his Yamaha DD-65. For me who gave him this gift, I couldn't be happier -- because he's happier than I've seen him in a long time.

The person using it now is very familiar with a conventional drum set, and this was not a big leap for him at all, so it was an easy transition with no big learning curve.

Hard to tell yet, but it appears to be sturdy and well made -- relatively light in weight, but not in quality.

This product greatly increases his ability to become a better drummer, and use the kit in places where a real drum set wouldn't be possible. So more time, and more possibility make it practically indispensible.

This is a product that has many advantages to a wide spectrum of unskilled to skilled drummers. I gave this as a gift to a semi-skilled drummer who has a terribly stress-filled job. This kit enables him to enjoy anything from a few minutes to a few hours of time working out, using another part of his brain, learning something new, all the while providing a familiar arrangement of a real drum set so he didn't have to re-learn how to coordinate the sounds he wanted. He can use headphones while in his office, or plug into an amp, or plug his ipod into it and accompany his favorite tunes.

The DD65 is perfect for what I use it for. As a hobby, I use looping software to create songs that I play live drum tracks to. I have a small house and have been using similar drum sets for a long time for space/volume reasons. I had a digital drumset that was paired with an external sound module for fifteen years that finally died, so I set out to replace them. I wanted something that had internal sounds so I could minimize the amount of programming I had to do. As soon as I plugged this in, I was off and running. The pad set up is pretty natural for a drummer and the pads themselves have a bounce like a practice pad. The biggest issue is that the pedals that come with it are really just buttons and difficult to use, but I am sure I could have adjusted if I needed to. I use the electronic pedals from my old digital drum set, but if I didn't, I would have upgraded at some point. The built in speakers are not loud enough to cover sound from the "tapping" of the sticks on the pads, so I don't use them. I have a small pair of powered studio speakers and headphones, both of which provide plenty of volume to show off the surprisingly clear and realistic sound quality found inside the unit. I give the DD65 a high rating based on how well it meets my needs, what I use it for, and the fact that it is better than I would have expected at this price level.
