"No buyer's remorse here!"
Feature:Others might rate this down because it does not come with an AC power supply. The AC power supply is optional. It can be powered by four AA batteries--which I consider to be a definite plus. I hate "wall wart" AC power supplies with that tiny little cord that is only 6-feet long at best and so flimsy that they short out if you sneeze at them or create line noise interference with your signal. Another useful feature is an on/off switch. Why Zoom is the only manufacturer that seems to comprehend this rather elementary concept is beyond me--but I enjoy just turning the thing off between sets by flipping the switch instead of having to unplug my instrument from it to turn it off. Finally, it has a reverse delay/reverb effect--an effect not offered by any other multiFX manufacturer. I love this effect for some my attempts at covering "I'm Only Sleeping."
Quality:
The product has very heavy-duty construction. The chassis and case are metal. The expression pedal is metal with a rubberized coating. The patch switches are heavy duty. Since I find a light tap to be sufficient, I find no reason to believe this shouldn't last at least as long as the less-substantially built DOD AcousticOne multiFX unit I had owned for over seven years.
Value:
I give this high marks because I purchased this to replace a Digitech RP350 I had purchased 17 months ago and found to be a less than adequate unit for anything other than a doorstop. The sound and features a far superior than anything I've heard from Digitech--and at less cost.
Desirability:
The layout, ease of use, features, sound, and quality of construction make this a must have.
Sound:
The first thing that impressed me is how quiet this unit is! I've owned three other multiFX units in the past 10 years and this is the quietest one yet in terms of hiss and background noise. In addition, the sounds I can get out of this are far superior to any unit I'd owned previously. The sounds are the best approximation to some of the old analog FX--a necessity since retro-sounding FX are crucial to the sound I'm striving for. Although this is voiced for electric guitar and not acoustic, I have managed, with the right mixture of EQ and compression, to eliminate the piezo "quack" of my acoustic-electric 12-string very easily, which eliminated the need to find a unit "voiced" for acoustic guitar. I use this with a Fender CD160e/12. For practice I plug it into a Dean M-16 practice amp. For gigging I plug it into a Peavey Escort 2000 portable sound system.
Ease of Use:
This is very easy to modify the settings to create user-patches. The layout is very intuitive. I started editing patches within 10 minutes of plugging my guitar into it. The only reason I have given this unit a less than perfect score is because there is no mechanism for switching banks easily. The only way to switch banks are two little chiclet buttons, one for "Bank down" and one for "Bank Up" situated between the three footswitches.
Support:
N/A--I've never had to deal with this company.
Overall:
I expect to be very happy with this product. I hope it lasts for a long time since I see on Samson's website that Zoom has discontinued this model.:-( If this were stolen I would have to track down the mangy feline (I won't insult my dogs) and make his/her life a nightmare.
