"ZOOM BUILDS A DURABLE FX BOARD, WITH EXCELLENT SOUND"

    Sound:
Absolutely love the sound quality of this processor. I've played it through a '69 vibro champ, and a '65 twin using a variety of guitars, and it sounds as good as anything out there in the $200-400 price range.
    Feature:
The unfortunate thing is that it doesn't come with a power supply (of course, most fx boards don't) so I had to scrounge one up from a local dealer (fortunately, free). On a positive note, it *can* run on 4 AA batteries, and my current set of batteries has about 5 hours of play time on them (usually more than plenty for a gig). Plenty of sound mods -- most are great, although some seem useless (the tech sound? wtf is the point?) One drawback is that there's no way to dump your settings out to a computer or a memory card... so if the unit were to hypothetically lose its memory, you'd be stuck programming everything again.
    Quality:
The all-metal case and heavy-duty footswitches and expression pedal are build to withstand nuclear devastation. The GFX5 is definitely designed with performers in mind... anyone who has played more than one gig in his/her lifetime can tell you that all-plastic gear doesn't survive long.
    Manufacturer Support:
    N/A
    Value:
quite a value for its price range... lower priced than comparable digitech and boss products, zoom has definitely made this unit a value
    The Wow Factor:
who the hell cares what something looks like, as long as it sounds and performs well? effects aren't a fashion show or an expression of personal style. They're not like that skull or flame you have airbrushed onto your stage axe. :-)
    Overall:
Provided the internal electronics are as durable as the exterior, I plan on using this unit for many years to come. The tone quality and the features make it an excellent stage unit and unless for some reason I need an interface with a computer, this will most likely be my primary (and probably only) effects board for quite some time.

"ZOOM GFX5- LESS HASSLE, MORE FEATURES, lookout BOSS/DIGITECH"

This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.

    Sound:
The sound is great. One of the best things I like about it is the ARRM technology. You can set whatever effect you want to a certain BPM(beat per minute) and it will follow that fluctuation so you can customize delays, wahs, etc. to the tempo of the song you are playing, you can even combine with the pedal to add more expression! The amp modeling is pretty good too, old box styles, combos, stacks, evs, etc. As for the distortion this unit has more types than you can shake a stick at, seems to be too many metal/thrash types for me, but hey, don't have to use them if I don't want.
    Feature:
You have to buy the AC adapter, get one at Radio Shack for cheap. My only disappointment is the lack of a midi in/out jack.
    Quality:
Metal Chassis, Solid Plastic footswitches and knobs. Seems to be pretty solid so far. I am not concerned about it breaking, if that's what you want to know.
    Manufacturer Support:
have not had to call so far, only heard good things though from other buyers.
    Value:
Definitely worth the value, I think Zoom has a great product in the GFX5. Everyone talks about BOSS and Digitech, but I think Zoom is a better value with all the features that a serious guitarist needs to be able to express themselves.
    The Wow Factor:
It looks fine, no bells and whistles or pretty colors just sleek and black/gray. As long as it sounds good I could care less.
    Overall:
I expect to own this unit for quite some time. I don't expect I will need a new one for at least 5 years or when some major technology changes are made that make it worth it to buy something new.

Zoom GFX5 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal Customer Review

    Sound:
The sound quality is great. 4 band equalizer for all models. (treble, mids, bass, presence). Also energizer effect is pretty useful, though it is a real time effect, in that its settings can't be saved, whatever value it currently is at will affect every patch. Sounds great through headphones, and equally well through an amp. Just make sure to turn the equalizer off on the amp, (0,0,0). And use the pedal to shape your tone.
    Feature:
Lots of effects and drive types. Everything works well. Wah wah is realistic, in that once you activate it by using the pedal, if you put the pedal to its original position it does not completely bypass the wah, which is what happens with a real wah pedal. However putting it into manual mode, makes it so you can have the patch set as you like, and only activate the wah when you need it. This however gets tricky because you have to put it back to play mode in order to change patches.
    Quality:
Its a tight looking pedal, colors are pretty plain I suppose. Not blue and bright like some Digitech pedals. But the metal finish is nice. Also I am not worried about it breaking whatsoever. The problem with the metal is that its heavy as hell. If your looking for a pedal to put in your gig bag and jam with on campus between class or something, look for a smaller one, such as the 707II. This beast probably weighs over 10 pounds. And takes up more space in your bag than a large textbook. It does run on batteries though, so if your willing to lug it around, it'll do well as a practice tool.
    Value:
I don't think theres a better processor for the money. And probably for another couple hundred bucks, for that matter.
    The Wow Factor:
When you're standing up, it just looks pretty plain, as the pedal is one base color (see pictures). I'd hope your not getting a pedal based on which is the prettiest though.
    Overall:
I'll be getting a new guitar, amp, and car before I replace this pedal. And I won't be replacing it with any products that are out at the moment, thats for sure.

    "This is the players choice"

    Sound:
From what I have played on and heard it has a great sound, the acousticy modelling though maybe needs slight work.
    Feature:
Has everything except a good acoustic simulator.
    Quality:
Build quality and finishing is excellent and ease of use is great.
    Value:
For what you get, compared to what you pay for is excellent. THere are pedals out there that you pay double for less features.
    The Wow Factor:
It rocks, asthetically and ergonomically rugged, it looks good, it play well and I feel good when people see me playing it. I have got comments like "WOW" that rocks, and all the others.
    Overall:
For a very long time indeed, I dont think I will need another pedal, at least notuntil it breaks from over using or it is stolen.

"The effects are good, I just didn't find the tone I was looking for with this unit."

This reviewer purchased this item from Same Day Music.

    Sound:
The effects all seem to be good, just did not like the distortions, everything sounded "metallic", [not Metallica]
    Feature:
I liked the fact that you can use batteries with this thing, that was a big factor in my purchase. The Turbo, Edge, and Energize were pretty decent also. I also bought it for the sampler feature, and the tuner, but most of these boxes have tuners now.
    Quality:
Haven't had it for long, but it seems pretty well built.
    Manufacturer Support:
    Can't say, haven't contacted them.
    Value:
The effects it has sound good, and if you bought them separately, they would cost a lot more.
    The Wow Factor:
Heather Locklear has sex appeal, guitar pedals do not! But this looks good compared to some others I have seen.
    Overall:
I am sending this back ASAP. I just don't like the distorted sounds, to each his own.

"The Pros and, Cons of the Zoom GFX-5 Pedal Made from Hell!"

    Sound:
The good things about it are the amount of drives and modulations. You can control the sound waves with the ARRM function eg. sine wave or square waves. It has tone, depth, speed, and mix controls for most of the mod's witch I know the cheaper multi-effects units didn't have. The EQ is great cause you can just turn the nobs and... yeah. The tone sounds beautiful if your smart and, know how to balance volumes and use the D-gate, Noise Reductor, Compression, and, Isolator correctly. If you complain of a hiss than you shouldconsider that if you have the distortion, mix's, volumes, edge, turbo, jacked up than the D-gate of course wont save you. If you do that I think you must be looking for feedback which this pedal is great for if that's your thing. If your into Industrial music this pedal is great for the strange mod's that can incorperate all those sick mechanical, clanking, buzzy noise's. If your one to complain the pedal has "useless" or, "strange" noises your a fossil and need to understand music like all things is everchanging and, personaly I'd rather move forward than into the past. The pedal is great for experimental sounds. If your into Grunge 80's-90's you can get that medium of heavy/melodic sound with the right volumes/mix's. It can get good speed/death/black metal drives 80's -90's. If your into psychodelic stuff like Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly etc... It is great for that with the true vintage drives and mod's. Also, great for smooth blues sounds with clear tones. And, for old school 50's sounds with a little tweak to the spring rev/mono delay, drive, the common mod's. You can definitly get that recorded in a bathroom kind of echo. The Expression pedal is awesome. It can be set to the mod, drive, sampler, pitch, volume, rev. It's great for if you want a mod to be activated as well as deactivated. You can control the speeds, intensity, volume etc... The Isolater is great for cutting out unwanted high or, low pitch sounds while playing. The sampler is cool. By itself it plays 6 Sec's of sound Changing speed, loop, and, a separate volume. With conjuntion with Hold Delay you can rec. 2 sec's of sound backwards as well as normal and sound on sound witch is a looped sound you can keep adding loops until it get's distorted and, undistinguished. The Wah works great. Amp Simulator is realistic. I have a generic guitar with a 40 watt Marshall Valvastate. Which didn't crank it as much as my Bassist giant amp. But, When I got the new Zoom pedal the Volume and, Tone dramaticaly increased. I could actually hear my every distinctive sound through all the chaos. As for the Bad things :( The sampler cannot save!!! As soon as you turn the function off the Rec. Goes out the window. So no You cannot play a riff the night before when you were wasted and, still have it in the mourning. Unless you forget to turn the pedal off with the sampler funtion still on than it might work lol. And, the Acoustic simulator isn't easily adapted for a clean sound without a little tinkering. I just turn the Bass EQ down as well as the overall EQ volume low, Leave the Turbo & Edge off. And keep the Acoustic Drive Gain up but, the Volume down, and, leave the overall pedal volume no higher than 27.I'm sure a little messing with the Compressor might help get the fuzz out of it. The key element have your amp high and the pedal low. As for the Drum Machine to me personaly, it sucks! You cannot edit the drum patches. You can change the speed/Tempo which is good for heavy metal but, otherwise I don't like the Beats I'd rather make my own. But, that's what a drummer is for or, if they suck you can always get a real drum machine for $100. I may consider this. That's all I have to complain about overall the pedal is perfect for Whatever music form you enjoy & will work well with whoever is knowledgeable in the importance of volume and, tones.
    Feature:
All the features are perfect. If you like weird industrial/Experimental stuff the Step Modulation effect only found on Zoom and, made by Zoom.It can be herad in the Stabbing Westward song "What Do I Have To Do". It's used by the Keyboard but, Same thing. It has a plastic hook that the wire wraps around in case pulled it'll only yank on the hook instead of your DC Adaptor plug input. I had that problem with my Zoom 505. The 3 middle pedals are great when in edit mode you can turn off the Drive, Mod, and, Rev individually. When in Play Mode you can change the Drive with the turn of a noob Or, Turn on and off all things in the effect change by pushing the buttons.
    Quality:
With the wire hook, the Metal chasis, and bullet proof industrial plastic. I'm not worried. However on a couple occasions all my patches were replaed by the factory ones I was pissed but, one patch stayed. When I turned the pedal on and, off they all came back??? I have no idea if it's because I play guitar like 7hrs straight every other day or, what? I'm not worried though the patches seem to stick. I guess it took a little breaking in lol. I think besides that the pedal is a dream.
    Manufacturer Support:
I never delt with the Zoom company and, don't want to. If a Product is truely good you shouldn't have to. But, I cheaked out forums and, I hear bad things but, it's usually a ridiculous question being asked so I wouldn't know what to believe.
    Value:
This pedal is Perfect for anyone I'd recommend it to anyone and, everyone. You get more effects and, better tone than Most $400 dollar ones. Don't waste your money on them without trying this beautiful machine. I looked all over for this pedal in music stores all over. and, called a lot of places. They always seemed to say "We dont' handle that!" Or, we don't deal with Zoom!" as if it's a black market pedal made from Hell. One guy said they past their prime. He was an dork no offence but, try things out for yourself reguardless. I had to order this pedal and, believe me if it didn't live up to my every expectation it would go right back to Hell lol.
    Overall:
I am greatly satisfied with the Zoom GFX-5 's sound, comfort, and look. I think it's the best thing I've ever heard I messed with lot's of single effect pedals Boss, Digi Tech, etc...But, They can't compare to the Price of this pedal for it's quality.
