"You Get What You Pay For Here."

Sound:
I've just completed my 5th project with the MRS 802. I was very disappointed at first with it ans was expecting much more from a digital recorder. I was tempted to send it back, mainly because of low level clipping, but I took my time with it and am happy to say that I've achieved some satisfactory results with it. I worked previously with analog 4 track. A friend of mine uses a Roland 1680 so I expected like results with this, but the Roland is a more sophisticated unit and you get what you pay for. My advise to anybody contemplating purchasing this unit is, Be prepared to take time with it and experiment with it, especially with EQ settings. Don't expect to get professional results out of the box (unless you are an audio engineering pro. Be patient and persistant and you can achieve favorable results with this unit. Maybe not as good as the above mentioned Roland, but better by far than analog 4-track cassette.
Feature:
Built-in drum machine provides realistic percussion sounds, but it would be nice if you could interchange the sounds from the different kits into each other. It's nice (for me) to have stereo drums, but I wish I could pick where the panning is placed. The panning on the drums are pre-set and cannot be changed. Brush slap sound, but no brush swirl (what good is one without the other) They have so many percussion sounds that I'll probably never use, but I really was hoping for a jazzy brush stick swirl sound. The many effects are neat. My only gripe with them is I wish they would be stereo.
Quality:
Solid unit, but knobs and faders "jiggle" a bit too much for my liking.
If you intend to take this on the road, I'd strongly recommend investing in the gig bag.
Manufacturer Support:
Strongest point. Samsontech has excellent support! A toll-free number.
Not 24/7, but reasonable. They solved a problem for me that almost caused me to return it. I thought it was a defect, but it was just that I wasn't doing something right. They fill in for the manual's shortcoming. Make sure you ask for Matthew! He saved me a great deal of inconvienience!
Value:
I believe you get what you pay for here.
The Wow Factor:
Display could be a bit larger.
Overall:
Hoping it will last me a few years. Hoping that when the time comes to replace the hard drive, I can do this myself without difficulty, as I've done with my computer.
